In John Steinbeck's Novella, "The Pearl" this parable teaches the reader through out the story that something that you might think are good or nice can actually, truly be bad or evil. In the story the author used the pearl as the example, Kino found the pearl and thought that it would make him rich, which is a great thing, but the pearl only brought him evil by having his son die, his canoe broken, him killing a stranger, and his house being burned down.In the parable the town's name was "La Paz" which means "the peace" and by the middle of the novella you can identify that the town was not like that anymore. The pearl changed who people were through out the story, for example - in the beginning of the story Kino was a man who was poor, but never had a problem with the way he did/lived. He was thankful and caring. Than when he finds the pearl in the middle of the novella he turns greedy and selfish, since people try to steal from him as well he is worried and violent. In the edn he throws the pearl into the sea and because he found that pearl he lost everything, including his house, his canoe, and his son. It teaches us that somethings may seem great and cool, but they could actually be evil and lead to danger.
